Kremlin Urges Widening Perspective on Drone Sightings

(MENAFN) Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has urged Western European leaders to "broaden their horizons" regarding the growing number of drone incidents across the region, cautioning against the automatic attribution of such activity to Russia.

His remarks were made on Monday in response to recent UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) sightings reported near airports, military bases, and vital infrastructure over the last month.

Despite a lack of substantiated evidence, several Western officials have suggested Moscow's involvement in these drone operations. Peskov, however, firmly dismissed these allegations, stating there is “absolutely no grounds to blame Russia for this.”

He referred to a recent case where a local “aviation enthusiast” with “no connection to Russia” was arrested while operating a drone in a European city as an example of misdirected suspicion.

“This is one specific, small, isolated example, but perhaps Europeans need to broaden their horizons,” Peskov emphasized.

Although he didn’t disclose the particular incident he had in mind, a media outlet reported on Saturday that a 41-year-old Croatian national had been detained near Frankfurt am Main Airport for drone activity.

In addition, the media outlet noted that several German citizens had recently been taken into custody for flying drones near an airport in Norway.

Norwegian authorities reportedly deported a Chinese citizen for operating a UAV close to Svolvaer Airport in the northern part of the country.

Peskov remarked that the overall pattern of drone-related incidents appears “strange, to say the least,” and reiterated that assigning blame to Russia is unjustified.

He criticized certain European politicians for being overly eager to hold Moscow responsible “for everything without any basis, without any grounds.”
